Medical Entrepreneurship & The $10 Challenge

Through the $10 Challenge, Fellows are asked to identify an unmet medical need in the area of Brain Health and invent new solutions or new applications of existing technology. They wil have to use different disciplines to solve the problem at a cost of less than $10 per patient. The five $10 Challenge groups each include a LFCRF Fellow, a UCSF or Stanford medical student, an Innovation Centre Denmark, Silicon Valley (website) ICDK intern, a faculty member, and are led by an experienced entrepreneur mentor. All mentors are world-leading Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, who have taken successful companies public in the past. Groups meet monthly for lectures on entrepreneurship. All ideas will be pitched at a competition at ICDK and thereafter made available in the public domain.  

The $10 Challenge groups are very successful and pursuing four innovative ideas. Previous projects listed below:

DiaStrips - Diabetes-detecting Saliva Strips 

DiaStrips is a novel, inexpensive, and non-invasive method of detecting elevated glucose levels in saliva with an app-based platform for medical follow-up.
