Program Management

Kala Mehta, D.Sc, MPH. Academic Director

Strong academic leadership background. Over 8 years experience (through UCSF& CTSI) in developing and running courses in clinical research, biostatistics and epidemiology. Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Will lead program direction and curriculum, recruitment, and partnerships.

Jeppe Dørup Olesen, Program Director and Science Attaché, ICDK

Strong background in science diplomacy and management. Jeppe previously led Aarhus University’s initiative for Talent Development and before that, he worked for the Ministry of Higher Education and Science. Jeppe has a PhD in Political Science from the European University in Florence.

Bergliot Borg Christensen, Science & Education Advisor, ICDK

Bergliot has worked with science and education policy for many years. She first came to ICDK in 2016 and previously worked at the Think Tank DEA and the Danish National Research Foundation.

Pernille Oland, Program Administrator

Strong accounting and IT background. Administrative experience in Institutional Review Boards. Direct experience hosting and managing DK medical students. Will be responsible for logistics, IRB, accounting for the program, and handling social activities and mentor issues for students.

US INSTITUTIONAL LIAISONS AND INSTRUCTOR TEAM

Peter Chin-Hong, MD, UCSF Faculty Liaison.

Director of the Pre-Health Undergraduate Program and the Clinical & Translational Research Fellows Program at UCSF. Direct experience training US and DK medical students. Professor of Medicine at UCSF. Will assist with program strategy, promotion, networking and identifying courses and mentors.

Steven Goodman, MD, MHS, PhD, Stanford Faculty Liaison.

Associate Dean of Clinical and Translational Research. Directs Stanford & CTSA/Spectrum training programs in medical research methods. Vice-chair of the Methodology Committee of the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). Professor of Medicine and of Health Research & Policy at Stanford. Will assist with program strategy, promotion, networking, identifying courses and mentors.

ADVISORY BOARD CO-CHAIRS

Andreas Kjær, MD, PhD, Clinician-Scientist and Entrepreneur, Advisory Board Co-Chair (DK).

Professor and Chief Physician at Rigshospitalet, University of Copenhagen. Head of Research, Department of Clinical Physiology, Nuclear Medicine & PET. Research focused on molecular imaging with PET and PET/MRI in cancer. Member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences. Co-founder of two biotech companies.

Shomit Ghose, Software Engineer and VC, Advisory Board Co-Chair (US).

General partner and managing director at ONSET Ventures, an early-stage Silicon Valley venture capital fund with $1 billion under management. Focus on big data and software infrastructure. Start-up experience includes three successful IPOs: as SVP of Operations at Tumbleweed Communications (1999 IPO), VP of Worldwide Services at BroadVision (1996 IPO), and software engineer at Sun Microsystems (1986 IPO).

Advisory Board Co-Chairs direct board activities and lead efforts to develop a committed group of advisors. In collaboration with the Program Director, Co-Chairs formulate strategy to meet short and long term program goals.

DENMARK INSTITUTIONAL LIAISONS

University of Copenhagen 

Jens Dalsgaard Hove, MD, PhD. Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen. Chief Physician at Hvidovre University Hospital and Director of its cardiac imaging unit. Research focus on cardiac imaging with echocardiography, cardiac CT and cardiac MR. Lead Institutional Liaison for Danish medical schools.

Aalborg University

Martin Bøgsted, PhD, Professor, Aalborg University/Aalborg University Hospital. Research focus on statistical issues in translating high throughout biological and big clinical data findings to clinical practice. Covers the whole statistical value chain from teaching and methodological developments to engineering, epidemiology, clinical trials designs (phase 0, I, II, and III), protocols, data management and computational statistics.

Aarhus University

Henrik Toft-Sørensen, MD, PhD, Internal medicine and hepatology. Professor of clinical epidemiology, founder and chair of Department of Clinical Epidemiology at Aarhus University Hospital. His research spans pharmaco-epidemiology, epidemiological measures and determinants of the prognosis of several chronic diseases using Danish registries and databases. Member, Board of Directors of the Danish Council for Independent Research.

University of Southern Denmark 

Jakob Ousager, PhD, Senior Executive Officer, Vice Head of the Graduate School. DK Institutional Liaisons facilitate relations with students, mentors, and administration at DK Institutions, coordinate with their US Institutional Liaison counterparts, and promote the program.
